The German TV station Sport1 seems to be following in the footsteps of the Sport-Streaming-Service DAZN and entering the lucrative betting business. The TV-Station which is based in Ismaning, Germany announced a short while ago that together with Magic Sports Media and Better Collective it will be setting up a separate betting department and it will provide the audience with a betting service. But when will the online betting service of Sport1 start operating and what can the users expect?

Around a year ago, we had asked in an article whether the Sport-Streaming-Service DAZN will open its own betting provider. Meanwhile this seems to have come true, and the betting provider is finalising the last preparations before it can finally start operating. Now the TV-Station Sport1, which is based in Ismaning near Munich is also following in its footsteps and the station wants to give its viewers the possibility of placing online bets.

Sport1.de will have its own sports betting service

As Sport1 GmbH has announced on its official website, the station will be partnering with Magic Sports Media and Better Collective and in the future, it will be able to provide its own sports betting service on Sport1.de. On the 10th of August 2022. According to the information given, Better Collective will be providing the TV-Station with detailed data and statistics which will then be analysed and used to create a user-friendly and attractive betting platform.

The Chairman of Sport1 Medien AG, Dr. Matthias Kirschenhofer, spoke about the new project of his entertainment group:

“Together with Better Collective we will be venturing into new paths of partnerships in the sports betting industry. Together we will be able to access a fast-growing market which is also economically rewarding. Our new services will offer sports betting fans attractive content.”

The website of Sport1 already includes a section for “Sports betting”. However, till date (as of the 2nd of September), no sports bets have been made. Sport1 GmbH and its cooperation partners must first apply for a German licence for sports betting. However, Sport1 has missed the start of the football Bundesliga. It is being planned that the service will be live for the start of the football World Cup in November. Around nine million users follow Sport1 every month to get the latest information on different sports disciplines. In November 2020 we had already reported about BildBet. This is a betting provider which belongs to the Axel Springer Media Group.

Sport1 is a German TV-Station of Sport 1 Medien AG. The brand was established in 2020 after a merger between sport1.de and the German Sports TV (DSF). The TV-station broadcasts all-day long, not only sports activities but also documentaries and Teleshopping. In 2016 the station had a market share of 0.9 %.

Conclusion

The TV station Sport1 will follow in the footsteps of the Sport-Streaming-Service DAZN and the BILD newspaper and it will launch its own sports betting provider services. The provider plans to start operating quite soon and thus be operational for the football World Cup in Katar. It is a fact that Sport1 is only planning to have a betting service and thus there will be no virtual slot machines or other casino games. We still must wait and see whether the betting section of Sport1 can keep up with the industry giants. No details have been given yet about the betting services or about any planned welcome bonus.
