Betway is one of the big players in the iGaming world. The brand has been online since 2006 and since then has enjoyed a success story that is rarely seen. With interesting betting options, good odds as well as a variety of bonus offers, Betway has made it to the top of the online bookmakers. Betway is now part of the Super Group and is even listed on the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange).

The green and black bookmaker focuses on the German market as well as other markets and offers sports betting in various countries. In order to achieve and maintain a high level of recognition, the bookmaker has entered into advertising partnerships with various sports stars in recent years. Betway is a partner of NBA finalists Miami Heat, Philadelphia Flyers, Atlético Madrid, Eintracht Frankfurt and Schalke 04.

Betway Limited, like many other companies in this vibrant industry, is based on the sunny island of Malta. As well as tax advantages, Malta offers a Mediterranean lifestyle and plenty of partying. When you contact support, you will be put in touch with a member of staff based in Malta. More on this later in the support and fraud section.

Betway was one of the first providers to receive the new German sports betting licence in 2021. Since 09.03.2021 Betway is in the position to offer completely legal sports bets on the net. Therefore, it was high time to test Betway and get my own impression of one of the world's biggest gaming companies.

My test took place in June 2023 and I decided to bet on two European Cup Finals and the DFB Cup Final, as the offer of football bets is traditionally a bit less in June, as almost all European club football is on summer break. Fortunately, the world is a lot bigger than Europe, so I was able to place a few bets on South American teams after the finals.

I did the big test on both the Betway app and my MacBook. My impressions of Betway and whether I was able to cash in the odd euro or two can be found here.

Here are experts at work and one wheel fits into another. Betway impresses with a clear and simple homepage. Like most of the big players, Betway does not have a mascot or a slogan. For me, this is absolutely right, as some players are distracted rather than convinced by unnecessary marketing activities.

Betway places the classic logo in the top left hand corner of the homepage. Moving a little further to the right, you have the option to change the odds display. You can choose between dezimal, fractional or the US form. You also have the option of going directly to the customer service or switching to English. On the right you will find the login and registration fields. There is also the familiar loupe.

Below this you will find a bar with various buttons such as: Live, Football, Betway Boosts, Tennis, Basketball, Wettschein, Cashout and the My Bets function.

On the left hand side you will find the sports you can bet on at Betway. I will go into this area in the "Sportsbook Offer" section.

There are no slider controls, which is something that sets Betway apart from other bookmakers.

In the middle of the Betway page you can see all the games in progress. This section is called "In-Play" and shows you all live events in various sports. Directly below this are various bonus promotions, which I will discuss in the 'Bonus and Promotions' section.

Mobile App from Betway

Last year alone, more than 50% of all sports bets were placed via smartphones. A figure that shows us once again where the journey is going. Betway recognised early on that a mobile website or app could contribute to their revenue and invested resources in the development of their own app.

The Betway app can now be downloaded for free from both the IOS App Store and the Google Play Store. With the app you can take part in the betting action and place your bets wherever you are.

Just like the desktop site, the app comes in the familiar colours of green, black and white. However, there are some differences. For example, much of the app is controlled by the three little bars in the top left-hand corner. Here you can access all the important menu items. Below this you can switch between live betting and standard betting. Below that, Betway has implemented a slider to show new bonus promotions or special events.

All in all, I was very happy with the iPhone app and even placed a mobile bet, but more on that later.

Registering with Betway

In my opinion, proper registration is the first step to receiving a payout and is a must for any serious bookmaker. Betway gives you the option of registering either via the app or the desktop. I used my MacBook for the registration, simply because it has a keyboard and a larger screen. To register, first click on the green 'Register' button. This will open a window asking you for the following information

• Salutation
• Your first name
• Surname
• Name at birth
• Date of birth
• Nationality
• Birthplace
• Username
• Your Password
• Your e-mail
• Home address
• Mobile Phone Number
• Your language

You will then be given the option to select or deselect the Welcome Bonus, more information on this can be found in the 'Bonus and promotions' section.

Finally, you will be asked which medium Betway would like to use to keep you up to date with our various bonus offers. Here you can choose between SMS, email, post and all. I personally prefer the newsletter via email.

Once you have successfully subscribed, you will receive a confirmation email. To complete the registration process, click on the link from your browser. Betway will then ask you to complete the verification process and once this is complete you can start playing.

Important to note

This section is particularly important for newcomers and is regularly included in my casino and bookmaker reviews:

• Sports betting is for people over 18: Even if it sometimes seems to be not so clear. Sports betting is gambling and gambling is for adults. Therefore, do not register with Betway until you have reached the age of 18. You must have reached the age of 18. Any false information will be noticed at the time of account verification. It is of course not possible to withdraw any winnings.
• Provide correct information: Whether you are intentionally or unintentionally deceiving the merchant, providing false information will result in your account being blocked. Whether it is your correct name, address or date of birth, please provide the correct information. Personal experience

Now that I have looked at the one or other sportsbook, it was time to look at Betway. Betway first caught my attention a few years ago when I was a big.

The sportsbook offer is without any doubt one of the most important points when evaluating a sportsbook. With the new German licence, bookmakers are only allowed to offer certain types of bets, so the range has shrunk compared to previous years. Nevertheless, Betway makes the best of it and has put together a really nice portfolio. In total, you can bet on 16 different sports:

Betway Boosts and Football Betting

Two must-have features in any sports betting review. Boosts are offered on certain bets. Some bookmakers tend to hold back with odds boosts, while others are more generous. Betway is one of them. Even during the summer break, Betway offers you odds boosts on football matches. For example, on games from the U21 European Championship, the Brazilian football league or the American MLS.

Quotenboosts can bring you more than the double under favourable circumstances. It is important to note that oddsboosts vary and are only available in a specific window.

In addition to oddsboosts, season bets are also a great way to win big. Especially before the start of the European seasons in July and August you will find attractive odds. For example, you can bet on the next Champions League winner or the next champion. However, as season bets are only paid out at the end of the season, individual bets on football matches are much better. For average games, you can bet on the following events

• Bet on the final score: 1 for home win, X for draw and 2 for away win
• Bet on the 1st goal
• Both teams score
• Double chance (win or draw for one team)
• Exact score
• Half time result
• 1 team to win and draw - money back
• Handicap betting
• Total goals

These possible outcomes are based on the Bundesliga opener between SV Werder Bremen and FC Bayern Munich.

Along with constant availability, attractive bonus offers have made online casinos and betting shops what they are today. A welcome bonus is not all there is to it. Let me explain the various Betway bonus offers to you in more detail.

Welcome bonus at Betway

As you have already read in the upper part, I have decided against activating a sign up bonus. This does not mean that the bonus is bad in general. Here is how the first bonus at Betway works.

At Betway you have the opportunity to receive a sports welcome bonus of up to 100 euros. The bonus is divided into two parts. For the 1. For the first deposit you will receive a 100% bonus up to 50 euros and for the second deposit you will receive the same bonus. The bonus terms and conditions are as follows

This offer is only available to new players at Betway who are residents of Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein or Luxembourg.

Both bonuses must be claimed within 30 (thirty) days of registration. A minimum deposit of €10 is required.
In order to be able to withdraw the bonus amount and the resulting winnings in real money, the wagering requirements must be at least 6 times the original bonus amount. With a bonus of €10 this would be €60.

Bets with different odds contribute differently.

The offer can not be combined with other bonus offers.

Explanation why I did not claim the bonus: I did not claim the welcome bonus in my big Betway review for several reasons. Firstly, I did not like the wagering requirement of 6 and secondly, I did not like the fact that players from Germany can only claim a maximum of €100 in bonus money per year.

A bonus code is not required to claim the bonus.

Other bonus offers at Betway

In addition to the welcome bonus, Betway offers you further bonus offers. The offers are as follows:

Just sign up for the free betting club. Here you will receive two £5 free bets every week. These freebets are valid for bets with 3+ events and a value of more than €25. Betway will give you the first bet on a Saturday and the second 5 Euro Freiwette on a Monday.

• 4 Scorer Promo

In the last Bundesliga season, Betway offered its players the 4 Knipser Promo. Players have to guess the first four goal scorers in four selected matches. You can win up to 100,000 Euros.

As soon as real money is involved, companies on the Internet have to create trust. On the one hand this can be achieved through licensing and on the other hand through customer support. Betway excels in both areas. Player support is available via live chat and email, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

As with other bookmakers, it is recommendable to use the live chat (09:00 to 22:00) for more urgent matters and to send an e-mail for those that can wait. The email address for this is de-support@betway.com. There is no telephone support, which is nothing unusual these days.
In my test I contacted the Betway support both via live chat and email and was completely satisfied on both occasions. The quality of the answers and the speed of response were both excellent.

I also liked the FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions), as they are answered in detail and may answer one or two questions for players.

Betway and player protection

Now that online bookmakers are licensed in Germany, the issue of player protection is taken very seriously. Betway has done an excellent job in this area. Players have the option of suspending their account at any time or lowering their deposit limit from €1000. Betway also cooperates with organisations that fight against gambling addiction, such as Glücksfall and eCOGRA.

Changes since the new licence

Since the new licence from Germany has been granted to various bookmakers, the life of bookmakers has changed considerably. I would like to summarise the most important changes to the State Treaty on Gambling.

• OASIS file: The OASIS file contains all player data. This includes the gaming behaviour of each individual. The OASIS file is highly controversial, and not just because of data protection.
• No more betting on specific events: Since the introduction of the new licence, betting on events such as corner balls or fouls has been prohibited. Bets can no longer be placed on yellow and red cards.
• Cross-provider payment limit of €1000: According to the new State Treaty on Gambling, players are not allowed to deposit more than €1000 per month. Even with a high income or large winnings, this limit is not to be changed upwards.
• No concurrent activity: Players are not allowed to try their luck with different operators at the same time.

Due to the new licence, the deposit and withdrawal methods have changed. Betway currently offers the following payment methods:

The minimum deposit for each payment method is €10 and there are no processing fees. The large selection of different payment methods is a plus and gives players a degree of freedom and flexibility.

In my opinion we see a lot of light but also a little shadow at Betway. For example, I would like to see more bonus offers, only the odds boosts convince me, but they are not really bonus offers.

On the other hand, Betway scores in the areas of odds, betting depth and a very nicely designed website and app. Betway also convinces with a wide range of payment methods. There is something here for everyone.

In conclusion, I can recommend Betway with a clear conscience, as it makes betting on sporting events easy for every punter. No matter if you are on the move or in your own four walls.
