The final of this year's Eurovision Song Contest will take place this Saturday, 11 May 2024 in Malmö, Sweden. Many betting fans from German-speaking countries are therefore once again asking themselves whether or not they can place ESC 2024 bets. We will try to answer this question in detail and also present the promising favourites for this competition.

Two years ago, GambleJoe reported on the Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Turin, Italy, in 2022. As anticipated, Ukraine took home the victory back then. One year later, the 67th Eurovision Song Contest took place in Liverpool, UK, where Sweden came out on top. For this reason, the final of this year's ESC will also take place in Malmö, Sweden. The competition was last held in Sweden in 2016.

Are ESC 2024 bets available in Germany?

First of all, we would like to make it clear that German ESC fans will unfortunately still not be able to place ESC 2024 bets. Why is that? It's simple: the current Interstate Treaty on Gambling (GlüStV) explicitly prohibits betting on entertainment, social events and politics. Instead, only certain types of sports betting are permitted. As a result, ESC betting is not available from any betting provider with a German licence from the Joint Gambling Authority of the Federal States (GGL).

However, there is one small consolation: the 2024 European Football Championship kicks off in Germany in around a month's time on 15 June, and most betting providers traditionally offer a huge range of sports bets for the European Championship. Just a few weeks ago, we at GambleJoe asked ourselves whether a betting provider is a suitable sponsor for the European Football Championship.

Eurovision Song Contest 2024: Who is the favourite this year?

A total of 37 countries are taking part in this year's Eurovision Song Contest. In addition to Germany and the host country Sweden, these include Italy, Portugal, Serbia, Spain, Slovenia, Cyprus, Finland, Ireland, Croatia and Lithuania.

However, a look at the current betting odds of the betting providers active abroad shows that there are obviously clear favourites even before the start of the final. Our research has shown that the odds for a Croatian victory are around 2.10 at several bookies. Croatia will be represented this year by the 28-year-old singer Baby Lasagna, who will perform the song Rim Tim Tagi Dim.

By way of comparison, betting odds of 250 are offered for a German victory. The Minden-born singer Isaak is competing for Germany with the song Always on the Run.
