The water shortage in Las Vegas seems to be always leaving more effect. For months the authorities have tried to combat the drought with stricter water saving measures. Is there now a possibility that the gambling metropole will dry out?

We had already written several articles about the popular gambling metropole Las Vegas in the past. A year ago for example we had reported that a “slot machine” in Las Vegas is giving out real cars. Now the desert metropole seems however to have a serious problem: water shortage. In fact Las Vegas is currently going through its worst drought in more than one thousand years. Which measures have now been introduced to prevent the city from drying out?

“Rien ne va plus” in Las Vegas?

For the last couple of months, the gambling metropole in Nevada has adopted rigorous water saving measures. Specially trained water waste investigators have been employed to track down water wasters and issue fines. The population must replace grass with artificial grass or cactus. Climate change is the main cause for the drought in the city.

The visitors to the city of Las Vegas are currently not really noticing the measures to save water. There is no saving being done in the impressive casinos of the metropole. For now those responsible have agreed that the casinos, the popular water games of the “Sin City”, and tourism have not been affected by the measures. This is no wonder because these are the motors of the economy. Last March we had reported, that online payments are being planned in Las Vegas.

With more than 2.2 million inhabitants the metropole region Las Vegas is the largest city in the US Federal State of Nevada. The Caesars Palace, the Hotel The Mirage, the Casino Bellagio and the Hotel Luxor are among the most famous hotels and gambling casinos. The highest temperature in Las Vegas has already been over 40 degrees since Summer.

Casinos in Las Vegas register further record sales

The gambling industry in Las Vegas has suffered through the Corona crisis. In 2021 however the sales picked up again. According to the Business and Economic Magazine Forbes the casinos in Nevada generated a turnover of 13.4 billion US-Dollar in 2021. Many casinos make use of psych tricks, in fact we had written about the latter last May.

Conclusion

The climate crisis has led to this drought in the gambling metropole of Las Vegas. The Colorado River has a dam just before the city. However, this dam is always shrinking because of climate change. As a comparison: Nowadays the dam has only one third of the water it had in the past. The situation in Las Vegas is so dramatic, that “water police“ have been set up, to track down water wasters and issue fines. We are excited to see what measures will be implemented in the following months to help fight this drought.
