Andorra is a tiny state with around 77,000 inhabitants and it lies between Spain and France. In March of this year the first casino will open in Andorra. The casino operator, Jocs SA, announced this during an international tourism fair in Spain. Does a casino in Andorra make sense and how attractive will the games offered be?

In May 2021 we had reported on GambleJoe about the issue, whether Liechtenstein could become the Las Vegas of Europe. In the following months there was a further increase in the number of casinos on the sixth smallest state on earth. Till recently there were six casinos in Liechtenstein, although it has a population of just over 40,000. However a short while later it was announced that the first casino must close again. A casino will now open in Andorra on the 4th. March 2023. This was announced by the gambling company Jocs SA during the tourisms fair FITUR 2023 in Madrid.

Casino in Andorra will be a tourist magnet

The manager of the future casino operators announced during the tourism fair that the casino has strategic importance for Andorra. This will make it more attractive as a travel destination. As already mentioned the casino will open on the 4th. March and it will be called “Unnic”. The Jocs SA will operate the casino in collaboration with the gambling giant Novomatic. In April 2021 we had reported that Novomatic generated around 263 million Euro in the business year 2020.

Andorra is a state which is situated in the Eastern Pyrenees between Frank and Spain. Around 77,000 people live on an area of around 468 sqm. Tourism, especially winter sport is an important economic factor for Andorra. Due to its favourable geographical position, there is hope that the liberalisation of the gambling sector will bring many tourists from the neighbouring countries Portugal, Spain and France.

Entertainment on 7500 sqm

In October 2020 the company had been accepted to build and operate a casino in Andorra. Nearly two and a half years later the casino “Unnic” will be opening here. It will be built on an area of around 7500 sqm and it will house not only slot machines and table games such as Roulette or Black Jack, but also several catering outlets. Among other things, there will be a bar, a restaurant, a car park, and a play area. Visitors must register to be able to access the casino.

The “Grand Casino Andorra” will have two different areas: an area for slot machines and another for table games. Among other things, guests can here play American Roulette, Blackjack, Texas Hold’em, Caribbean Poker und Omaha. On the third floor there will be a separate VIP Area.

The Casino “Unnic” will be situated in the centre of Andorra la Vella. Andorra itself is a democratic state in the form of a parliamentary monarchy which is situated between Spain and France. In the run-up there were several delays since the government of Andorra had constantly refused to provide Jocs SA with a licence. Meanwhile the “Unnic”-casino already has its own website.

Conclusion

The first casino will soon open in the country of Andorra. We have to wait and see whether further gambling companies will show interest to open another casino in Andorra. Recently one could see a “casino boom” in Liechtenstein, where there were six casinos for 40,000 inhabitants. In Andorra there will now be only one casino for the 70,000 people living there.
