A short while ago a Twitch-Fan had started an online petition against casino streams. The aim is to motivate the operators to ban illegal gambling streams from the platform. How successful has the petition been and will Twitch feel motivated to completely ban casino streams?

Around two weeks ago a preoccupied fan of the streaming platform Twitch started a petition against gambling streams. On the 20th of May 2022, Erin Jordan had already started the initiative und made the issue public on Change.org. Jordan specifically addresses large gambling customers of Twitch such as Pepsi or McDonald‘s and calls upon them to motivate Twitch to ban casino streams. In August of last year, we had already reported about the restricted advertising ban for casino streams on Twitch.

Twitch-Fan wants better protection for young people

The initiator of the petition wants to protect young people from the dangers of gambling in a better way. For this reason, a petition called “Twitch Advertisers, use your leverage to put an end to shady casino broadcasts on Twitch” has been set up on the platform Change.org.

The Twitch advertising partners should use their influence to make pressure on the successful streaming platform. Large companies such as Pepsi, McDonald’s, Adobe, Uber, Electronic Arts, HP, Logitech, Burger King, Lexus and Mars are specifically targeted in the description. All these companies advertise on Twitch. Just a few weeks ago we had reported, that a Twitch-Star had rejected a 10 Million deal for casino sreams.

The exact wording of the petition released on the 20th. May 2022 is:

“Your advert on Twitch will be appearing next to Twitch-Streamers which advertise for unregulated online casinos, which cause excessive harm to young viewers and minors. Consequently, your brand is being associated with these unregulated crypto casinos which can have a negative effect on viewers.”

Nearly 2000 signatures collected online

Till now exactly 1936 persons have signed the online petition (as of 7th June 2022). However there have been no public statements neither from the large advertising customers of Twitch nor from the platform itself. In October of last year, we had already raised the issue in an article about how much do casino streamers earn on Twitch. The main issue given in the online appeal is that casino streams can trigger a negative chain reaction. The initiator is insisting that one in every five gambling addicted persons commit suicide. For this reason, players with a problematic gambling behaviour and minors must be offered better protection from the dangers of gambling.

Conclusion

The petition is demanding that advertisers assert their influence against Twitch. Further to this the petition is also calling for an end to these illegal casino streams so that viewers who need protection are helped. We are excited to see whether there will be any reaction from the streaming giant Twitch in the next days or weeks. Till now the initiator has only collected around 2000 signatures.
