Powerball: US player wins more than 2 billion USD

A jackpot which runs into billions was cracked around a week ago in America. This is the main win of the famous lottery Powerball. According to reports in the media the winning ticket was bought in the US Federal State of California. The lucky chap can now rejoice as he won around two billion US-Dollar.

In September we had reported about an impressive Jackpot win which happened after just two minutes of playing time. However, the player in Velden am Wörthersee in Austria had here “only” won 204,000 Euro. In the American Lottery Powerball, a player from California has now managed to do something unbelievable: With his selected numbers he won a Mega-Jackpot amounting to 2.04 billion US-Dollar.

Highest Jackpot in history since 1992

The jackpot which has been cracked in the Powerball is the highest amount ever to be won in the thirty-year history of the American lottery. The winner has won around two billion US-Dollar by selecting the numbers 10, 33, 41, 47 and 56. As a bonus number he chose the 10. The winning ticket was bought at the petrol station Joe’s Service Center in Altadena in the US Federal State of California. This information was given by the lottery company California Lottery.

However, there is a snag: If the winner chooses to cash in the winning jackpot in full, then he will receive a bit less than half the original jackpot sum. To be more precise, he would then receive “only” 998 million US-Dollar instead of 2.03 billion US-Dollar. However, this amount would be enough to lead a worry-free life. The alternative for the Jackpot winner would be to receive the winning amount as yearly payments.

Conclusion

A player from California cleared the Powerball in the American Lottery and won over two billion US-Dollar. He can now decide whether he would like to receive the winning amount all at one go and thus receive a bit less than half of the original sum or whether he would like to receive a yearly amount.
