Roulette & Blackjack: Online casino games available in Bavaria

Almost a fortnight ago, the first online casino went live in Germany where players can legally play online casino games such as blackjack or roulette. However, the offer is aimed exclusively at gambling enthusiasts residing in Bavaria. But how attractive is the new offer and when will players from other federal states also be able to access it?

At the beginning of February, in an article published on GambleJoe, we wondered when live games would be available in German online casinos. The State Lottery and Casino Administration based in Munich has now created facts and operates the first German online casino with online casino games on the website "spielbanken-bayern-online.de".

Bavaria: Roulette, Blackjack & Poker available online

Since the beginning of March, players in Bavaria, the largest German state in terms of area, have been able to access exciting online casino games. In addition to Blackjack and Roulette, the state lottery and casino administration also offers Texas Hold'em Poker. Live games are available around the clock. However, players must not only be at least 18 years of age to participate, but also have a verifiable residence in Bavaria. The player must also be present in Bavaria for the duration of the game.

A look at the official whitelist of the Joint Gaming Authority shows that the State Lottery and Casino Administration was granted the licence on 15 January. However, the virtual casino with live games only went online on 5 March.

Surprisingly fair table limits in Bavaria

Many players have been wondering for some time whether online casino games will be subject to similarly strict maximum stakes as virtual slot machines. As a reminder: For online slots, the maximum bet per spin in legal online casinos is one euro. However, it is now clear that significantly more flexible limits will apply to table games, at least in Bavaria.

For example, players can play blackjack or poker at "spielbanken-bayern-online.de" from a stake of just 0.10 euros per game round. The minimum bet for roulette is 0.20 euros. The high maximum stake set by the online casino is particularly surprising. The maximum bet possible at the blackjack tables is 100 euros per game round. In roulette, bets totalling 3,000 euros per game round are permitted.

The Bavarian casinos offer a free customer hotline where players can ask any questions they may have about registration and participation in the games. The hotline is available free of charge during the day on 0800 0 898899.

Strict age and identity checks in Bavaria

To ensure that the Bavarian casinos can be certain that only adult players use the online offer, a strict age and identity check is carried out. Players must agree to the SCHUFA IdentityCheck Premium in order to participate in the so-called spontaneous game. In a somewhat older article, we at GambleJoe have already asked ourselves whether players can receive a negative SCHUFA entry by participating in online gambling.

In the first three days after the positive SCHUFA check, the deposit limit is initially only 100 euros. After this period, higher deposits are possible. To complete identification via SCHUFA, players can opt for either the so-called 1 cent procedure or the video identification procedure. In the 1 cent procedure, the Bavarian casinos transfer one cent to the player's bank account and leave a PIN in the intended purpose.

Conclusion

Since March 2024, at least the almost 14 million inhabitants of Bavaria have had the opportunity to legally play online casino games such as roulette and blackjack for real money. Players can even benefit from flexible betting limits, allowing them to stake between €0.10 and €3,000 per game round. It will be interesting to see when the next federal states are ready to issue further licences for online casino games.
