A few days ago, an almost 70-year-old defendant appeared before the Osnabrück District Court on charges of illegal gambling. Specifically, he was accused of installing and operating several gaming machines in a pub in Osnabrück without the necessary licence. According to the indictment, the operation of the illegal gaming machines was very profitable for the man.

Just a few months ago, we reported on GambleJoe that an 83-year-old woman was accused of helping to run five illegal gambling halls. Now, a 68-year-old man from the Osnabrück area has been accused of operating three illegal gaming machines in a pub over a period of about a year. According to the public prosecutor's office, it was clear to the accused that he did not have a licence to operate the machines, as a police officer had already made this clear to him during an earlier operation.

Defendant made almost 200,000 euros profit with three illegal slot machines

According to the indictment, the 68-year-old man allegedly earned a total of approximately 192,000 euros within one year from the three illegally installed gaming machines. Each of the machines brought him an average income of more than €5,300 per month. He operated the machines between 2021 and 2022 in a pub that was also not registered.

However, the police were able to track down the elderly man. The accused has now been brought before the Osnabrück District Court to answer for his crime. The presiding judge has not yet passed a sentence. Back in October 2022, we reported that police in Düsseldorf had discovered a brothel with an integrated casino.

Illegal slot machines remain a problem

There are almost daily reports of illegal gaming machines being discovered and confiscated by investigating authorities across the country. As recently as mid-August, for example, several illegal gaming machines were discovered in a tea room in Neumünster.

In addition, Bild.de published an interesting report a few days ago on how much money criminals can make with an illegal gaming machine. Specifically, they published the results of an illegal slot machine test carried out by investigators in Hamburg. The result from a single machine:

  • 755.133 games playedt
  • 206.959 Euro otal bet
  • 120.910 Euro winnings paid to players
  • 86.049 Euro retained profit
Of course, the profit made from an illegal slot machine is not taxed, so the entire amount is kept by the offender or group of offenders.

In March 2022, an article published on GambleJoe reported that illegal slot machines were on the rise.
