Online casinos do not have an easy time in the USA. Only a few states allow them. Live casinos are a curiosity. Authentic Gaming is about to change all that.

If you want to play legally at an online casino in the United States, you can only do so in relatively few regions. The individual states regulate the legal issues surrounding the platforms and their licences themselves. This means that there is no US-wide licence comparable to the German licence and its regulatory model. The selection of games also varies widely.

Online casinos are currently only licensed in New Jersey (launch: November 2013), Pennsylvania (launch: July 2019), West Virginia (launch: July 2020), Michigan (launch: January 2021) and Connecticut (launch: October 2021). In all of these regions, punters will have access to dozens of gaming platforms - including big and internationally recognised names such as Unibet and Betfair. While in Europe it would be normal to have access to a live casino with such a choice in many countries, this is not the case in the USA.

Live casinos have been an integral part of online casinos in European jurisdictions with licensing systems for many years. A similarly broad coverage is now to be initiated in the United States. Maltese developer Authentic Gaming plans to attack the US market from Michigan, where it has already secured a licence.

Authentic Gaming looks to conquer the US market with special Michigan titles

In a recent interview, Dagmara Bator, Authentic Gaming's Head of Marketing and Strategy Implementation, spoke about the company's planned expansion into the US market, and made it clear that the company has first-class interactive live games up its sleeve for the US. These will be streamed directly from land-based casinos and dedicated broadcast studios.

Bator is quick to announce that Michigan is just the beginning of "Authentic's mission in the US. New Jersey, the pioneering state in US online gaming, will soon follow.

Authentic Gaming makes its games available worldwide. However, the company is adapting its offering for the United States, which, according to those in charge, starts with the game library. Authentic is able to create localised options from an extensive selection that are directly relevant to the target audience.

Authentic Gaming sees strong demand

Live dealer games offer casino fans an unrivalled level of interaction and opportunities to influence the course of a game: The people at Authentic are convinced of this. Above all, however, classic tables such as blackjack or roulette in live variants convey a particularly high level of confidence - according to the motto: "Seeing is believing".

Authentic Gaming has also noticed that players in the USA are very keen on live offers. Such titles feel "real" in a way that purely computer-based games cannot achieve. This is specifically due to the opportunity to experience the gameplay live, to help shape it and to see real reactions. The result is a steady increase in live dealer participation - and not just in the United States.

Jonas Delin sees huge potential in live gaming: "Live casino is now a central part of operators' product and business strategy. In some markets, live dealers account for around 50 per cent of the total business, while in others it's as low as 20 per cent. According to Delin, no market can really go below 20 per cent.

He also emphasises the great interest in new types of titles: "There is great demand for non-traditional table games." Dagmara Bator adds: "Game shows are definitely the strongest upward trend". Authentic is also increasingly working on live slots, but distribution is more difficult here, says Bator: "Live slot games are a complicated topic. In recent years, we have seen less successful releases, but also some new titles with potential. One of Authentic Gaming's most successful offerings in this segment is 7's on Fire Live. Here, elements of live roulette and classic slots are combined.

What the Americans can expect

Authentic Gaming is looking to make a big push into the US market, according to the company:

"The key elements that make up the gaming experience are a powerful gaming engine that can handle thousands of simultaneous players, stream quality that delivers 4K video to the player 24/7, a high quality user interface, stylish studio environments with the best sound, and service-oriented, dynamic moderators," says Delin.

Good live dealer games are less static and more like a Broadway show. They are designed to give players the most realistic casino experience possible, as close as possible to a real casino. However, this is only possible if such offerings have a high production value. Americans are very spoilt when it comes to entertainment, so Authentic has to go to great lengths.

Conclusion

There are definitely some online casinos in the USA that offer live dealer games. However, their numbers are comparatively small. Authentic Gaming does not want to offer just any live games here, but wants to set new trends and supply the market very precisely. Its chances of success are not bad, considering the huge interest Americans have in live games.
