Nowadays whilst waiting or to while away the time one automatically reaches for the smartphone. To send a message to friends, to discover what’s new on social media or to buy in online shops. Besides, for years the casino apps have increased in popularity. In this case these is for mobile products of the casino, which are tailor-made for smartphones. How relevant is the smartphone, when compared to a PC?

In the next years there will be an enormous increase in turnover from the online gambling market. By 2030 the sector’s turnover will amount to more than 192 billion US-Dollar per year. Most particularly we will see a rapid increase in the mobile gambling market. Nowadays many gambling enthusiasts pull out their smartphone when they want to play on the slot machines in an online casino. The reason for this trend is quite clear: The smartphone is always handy and therefore gamblers can gamble whenever and wherever they want and can thus for example bridge the waiting time.

One in every two Euro is already used for Casino-Apps

According to a recent statistic, 50% of this year’s gross gambling revenue from the worldwide online gambling market worldwide is from mobile gamings. This means that in 2022, one in every two Euro which has been channelled in online gambling was generated with a smartphone or with another mobile device. The prognosis for 2023 is that this percentage will even increase to 53 %. In May of last year we had already reported about the increase in popularity of online gambling from smartphones.

Mobile-Gaming: Advantages and disadvantages

There is currently a noticeable trend towards mobile gamings. It is expected that in the coming years there will be more gambling enthusiasts who will place their bets from a smartphone or Tablet-PC. Meanwhile the complete gambling offers of the online casino can also be accessed and used on a mobile phone.

Generally, the web app can adapt the contents to the respective size of the device. Thus, slot machines can be pleasantly used on smartphones without any problems, whilst one is out and about. This is however not the case with table and card games in the live casino. Whilst playing Blackjack, Roulette, or Poker the screen of the mobile device can be too small. Besides this there is the danger, that one is distracted with the hectic daily routine whilst playing on the mobile and thus one loses concentration very easily, because one is just playing and doing something else at the same time. In February 2021 we had for example reported that a seven year old had gambled away nearly 2700 Euro from a mobile phone.

Pro:

  • Waiting times or breaks can used in an entertaining way.
  • Generally, all features and games are available on mobile (incl. bonus)
  • Often no previous download is necessary.

Contra:

  • The danger, that one can play “too often” or without control
  • casino games are much smaller on the mobile and at times less authentic
Unfortunately, there is currently no online casino with a German licence which offers a casino app which can be downloaded in the respective store for iOS or Android. Instead, all casinos have initially decided to use a web App. This is a mobile side version of the respective game services, which can work without having been previously downloaded.

Conclusion

At the end of the day the player has a choice whether he or she prefers to play in a mobile casino whilst being on the go or to make use of the alternative desktop version. Playing on a favourite slot on the mobile poses no problem and can help to while away the time when on a journey or whilst waiting at the doctor. However, those who want to make mobile payments, or contact the support, or play in a live casino and at the same time want to oversee their payment transactions, those are generally better off on a PC.
