An American property agent is being accused of a fraud worth millions. In all, he defrauded investors of a sum worth 22 million Euro when converted. With this money he financed his “Lottery-addiction“. The man had in part been spending one million dollar per week worth of lottery tickets. Could he at least crack the jackpot with these tickets?

The successful 43-year old property adviser is appearing in court in USA these days and must answer to his crimes. According to the prosecution the man has cheated investors of million amounts, to be able to finance his lottery addiction, which has got out of control. He says he is absolutely convinced of a way how to knack the big lottery-jackpot. Unfortunately even his millions, which he got by fraudulent means, did not help - he still did not win the Jackpot.

1 Million US-Dollar per week for lottery tickets

Whilst most lottery players spend only a couple of Euros for the lottery each week, the 43-year old obviously wanted to aim higher than that. He used up to a million US-Dollar per week to buy lottery tickets. His balance was still not impressive: Even after he had spent over a million US-Dollar for lottery tickets, he still had not cracked the big jackpot.

In 2020, the accused Viktor G. had already started to buy quite a number of lottery tickets of the Michigan State Lottery as a successful property adviser. His focus for a long period of time was on the draws “Daily 3“ and “Daily 4“. In the following years, he had constantly increased his spending on lottery tickets and at some time he had lost control over his gambling behaviour. As from 2017, then it was not possible for the accused to finance his “lottery addiction” with his own money.

The Michigan State Lottery is an important lottery, in which daily there are several drawings. The main prize, depending on the type of draw, amounts to between 500 and 5000 US-Dollar. With 0.50 US-Dollar one can already buy a ticket.

Invented Real estate projects to receive more millions

The property expert started to convince his partners of apparently attractive real estate projects. Over the years in all there were at least 24 aggrieved parties, who had transferred large sums to the accused. The total loss till summer 2019, when converted, amounted to around 22 million euro. Whilst the investors thought they were investing in real estate projects, Viktor G instead used the money to finance his unbelievable “lottery addiction“.

In some cases, the accused had actually won smaller amounts in the Michigan State Lottery. He had then paid these amounts to his investors, to be able to continue his illegal business model over a longer time. That even a million-jackpot does not ward off bad luck is shown in the example of the British man, who squandered a total of 15 million Euros in a short while (GambleJoe reports).

Faces up to 20 years imprisonment

No trial has yet started against the former property adviser. It is actually understood that because of the clear proof the accused will plead guilty. In the case of conviction, the man can face up to 20 years imprisonment.

In bill of indictment, it is noted, that the man had assumed that he had found the guaranteed way to win the lottery. He was convinced that he will soon make large winnings with which he could pay back the creditors. After his “strategy“, even after some time, did not work, he started to increase his gambling spending massively- and in this way he clearly lost even more money.

Conclusion

The present case shows, that gambling addiction can also be a very serious problem in lotteries. The former property adviser who is now being accused had spent up to one million US-Dollar per week on lottery tickets of the Michigan State Lottery and in that way he defrauded quite a number of investors of umpteen millions in US-Dollars. The accused thought, that at one point or another, he would definitely crack the jackpot with his naive “strategy”. Now the “lottery fan” is facing up to 20 years imprisonment in the USA. The aggrieved parties will probably never see their money again.
