Bundesliga tips: Mainz vs. Leverkusen

My colleague Kevin has already picked out three exciting bets, so I will now look at the Mainz vs. Leverkusen game, which is a clear favourite for me. One look at the league table alone speaks volumes, as tomorrow's match sees 2nd against 18th, and I expect nothing to change in the league standings after this game. Mainz have been the big disappointment of the season so far, while Leverkusen have been dominating the Bundesliga. Mainz won the title on the 34th matchday last year. Last year, they stole the title from Dortmund on the 34th matchday and had a generally good season, so this drop in form comes as a surprise.

Mainz still winless this season

Their current record includes four defeats and a draw at home to Eintracht Frankfurt. Their poor run of form began on the opening day of the season, when Ajorque was injured after conceding two penalties against Union Berlin. The attack has scored just four goals so far, only Cologne and Bochum have managed as few. At the same time, the defensive unit has allowed far too many goals, conceding 14 in five games. Last week, they threw away a lead against Augsburg and lost 2-1. The team has looked shaky, lacking in ideas and lacking in creativity. Things are unlikely to get any better against Leverkusen.

Leverkusen just too strong

I had Leverkusen in my bets last weekend and I was right. The 4-1 win over Heidenheim hasn't changed my opinion of the team, in fact it has strengthened it. They play incredibly well and are always good for some great moments. Boniface is a real force up front, even if he does miss a few chances now and then. There were no international fixtures this week and Leverkusen were able to prepare for Mainz. Leverkusen took a point away in Munich and won 3-0 in Gladbach, so Mainz will be no problem.

My Mainz vs. Leverkusen prediction

I believe that this prediction is not surprising and you do not need to be a football expert to make it. If you want to take a little less risk, you can take the normal away win, but I am going for a clear victory. Mainz are rattled, Leverkusen will play their ball possession football again and once the score is 1-0, Mainz will be rattled too. I am backing Leverkusen in all of my manager league bets this week and my bets here are a no-brainer.
