Olympics 2024: Naomi Osaka vs Angelique Kerber
Now the time has come. Angelique Kerber has announced the end of her career. The now 36-year-old German will play her last tournament at the Olympics. In Paris, she will face Naomi Osaka from Japan, who is a whole 10 years younger. Both have already seen the world rankings from the very top. Osaka was ranked No. 1 in January 2019 and Angelique in September 2016, but those days are long gone. In the meantime, both have had a child and have taken time out in between. neither played at all in 2023. While Osaka has been to 7 major tournaments this year, Kerber has only been to 6 and with moderate success at both. Kerber was even eliminated in round 1 at 4 of the 6 tournaments. While Osaka at least managed to reach the 2nd round in 6 of the 7 tournaments. As far as the last matches are concerned, Kerber has lost all of the last 5. osaka has won 2 out of 5 and always won at least one set in 4 of them. Statistically, it looks like Osaka simply has more to offer. As sorry as I am, Kerber's career in the singles ends here. I'm assuming a clear 2:0 here. Maybe Kerber can still do something in the doubles because she's still competing there.
Bet: Osaka wins 2:0
