Lotto always writes strange, funny and even tragic stories. This one is definitely not in the latter category: A woman from Baden-Württemberg hit the Eurojackpot last week. On Friday the 13th, of all days, the lucky woman was able to enjoy one of the biggest German lottery wins ever. Read the full story here.

Many players are superstitious about certain situations: some have fixed rituals that they perform every time they sit down at a new slot machine. There are always lucky charms that have to be in the game. And when they see Friday the 13th on their calendars, most of them have at least a fleeting thought that, according to tradition, this is not a lucky day.

The myth of the unlucky day is regularly debunked - and last week the myth's believers were proved wrong once again: A woman from Calw in the German state of Baden-Württemberg hit the Eurojackpot on that very day and is now more than €54 million richer.

All Lotto Baden-Württemberg information about the win: These numbers won the jackpot

Lotto Baden-Württemberg announced last Friday evening that a woman from the state had won the Eurojackpot top prize. As usual, not much more was revealed about the person - except that she comes from the Calw district of the Karlsruhe administrative district.

The numbers that led to her success in the first prize category were also published: The woman from Baden-Württemberg was right on 16, 23, 30, 37 and 41. She also matched the Euro numbers 2 and 9, for which she will now receive exactly 54,233,217.90 euros. The ticket in question was submitted online.

Georg Wacker, Managing Director of Lotto Baden-Württemberg, said in a news release that this is the third highest lottery prize his company has ever issued.

What is the Eurojackpot?

Eurojackpot is an international lottery offered by state-owned gambling companies in 18 European countries. Drawings take place every Tuesday and Friday in Helsinki. Westlotto in Münster is responsible for the coordination. The pot is at least 10 million Euros. However, the jackpot can grow to as much as 120 million euros. Those who participate in the Eurojackpot have a chance of winning 1 in 140 million.

Friday the 13th was also a lucky day for other winners from Germany

In the second prize category of the Eurojackpot, six more players won big. The lucky winners can now look forward to more than €360,000 each. As well as one Dane, five Germans matched the numbers. The money goes twice to Lower Saxony. Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia and Thuringia also have one winner each.

In the third prize category there was also a nice sum. There were 12 players who took home €101,000 each. Again, there are a few Germans among them - from Bavaria, Berlin, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Rhineland-Palatinate. Lotto fans from Sweden, Denmark, Croatia and Hungary were also lucky.

Conclusion

Why Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky day is not 100% clear. There are various (beliefs) and they probably all contribute to our current picture. For the woman from Baden-Württemberg who won a whopping 54 million euros in the lottery last Friday the 13th, all the theories should no longer have any influence on her view of happiness and unhappiness (if they had any at all). She will see the supposedly unlucky day in a completely different light.
