As it was announced recently, the British gambling group Entain supports the children’s charity “Chance for Childhood”. Entain is an internationally active gambling group, which in 2020 generated a turnover of over 2,5 billion euro. To what extent is Entain engaged in the social sphere and which projects are especially encouraged?

In April of this year we reported about a successful course of the gambling group Entain. Now the company which is registered on the stock exchange wants to broaden its social engagement. Through the company’s own Entain Foundation, the children’s charity “Chance for Childhood” will be supported. Besides bwin, partypoker, Ladbrokes und Sportingbet are also brands of the company.

Entain plans educational initiative among street children

As Entain announced a few days ago, the charity project “Chance for Childhood“ in Ghana will be supported. This project will be carried out with street children and will involve an educational initiative. The situation there is dramatic: Just in the Ghanaian Capital Accra it is estimated that there are currently 61,500 children on the street. Around one third of all children there do not go to school and therefore have no opportunity to receive any education.

Among children at the age of five to seven years there are around 20 % who are already in employment. The Entain Foundation wants to counteract this trend and provide the best possible education locally.

Pilot project “Change the first 1,000 Days” planned

In cooperation with the children’s charity “Chance of Childhood“, the gambling group Entain now wants to initiate a pilot project with the name “Change the first 1,000 Days”. The aim of this project is to offer a perspective for the several hundreds of children on the streets. There is a concrete plan to provide access to early childhood education for 600 street children. We tried to research what budget was made available for this project, but unfortunately we could not find any information on this.

The children’s charity has for a long time publicly denounced the undignified conditions in the development of many children in Africa. The majority of these homeless children are girls from rural areas. Many children in the country have no other option than taking the job as so-called head carriers. Here the children must carry heavy objects on the head - partly across long distances.

Together with the Entain Foundation, the children‘s charity now wants to improve the conditions there. As a first step the capacity of teachers and caregivers in ten state kindergartens in Accra should be significantly increased. Entain itself emphasised once again, that through its charitable organisation it wants to contribute to society.

Entain (formerly GVC Holdings) is an international sport betting and gambling company. It was founded in 2004 under another name. The headquarters of the company is in Isle of Man. Recently, in 2019. Entai generated a turnover amounting to over 3,5 million euro. The entertainment group has a total of more than 2,800 employees in localities all over the world.

Further engagement planned by Entain

In a recent communication, the British gambling concern, announced that it wants to improve player protection in Germany. Therefore, the globally active company plans investments amounting to millions in the area of responsible gambling. The financial means needed for this will also be made available through the Entain Foundation. Only a few weeks ago, we asked the question in our handbook, how can irresponsible playing function. In October of last year, Entain received its first German licence for its brands bwin, Sportingbet and Gamebookers.

Conclusion

Through its social engagement, Entain has attracted attention more than once in the past. Recently, the renowned gambling group donated the amount of 100,000 Pounds to help fight the Corona pandemic in India. Besides this, we reported in our article “GambleAware: only small change for gambling addiction aid?“, that Entain belongs among the most generous donators in the area of gambling addiction aid. We can only hope, that the Entain foundation can support the children’s charity “Chance for Childhood“ possibly even beyond the pilot project.
