After having undergone a comprehensive structural restoration, a few days ago, the Spielbank Berlin reopened its main location on Potsdamer Platz. Guests can now play here on six floors and make use of 500 slot machines and 40 game tables. The 14-metre-high crystal chandelier directly at the entrance of the building is an eye catcher. How expensive were the refurbishments and what is the entrance price now?

After around 14 months the Spielbank Berlin the refurbishments and modernisation on the building on Potsdamer Platz have been concluded. This is now Germany’s most modern casino. The guests can now make use of 500 slot machines and 40 game tables which are situated on an area of around 8500 sqm. In Summer of 2019 we had already reported about Spielbank Berlin, which operates the capital city’s casinos.

Modernisation costs 20 million Euro

After having undergone renovations which lasted for more than a year, the Spielbank Potsdamer Platz has opened its doors once again just a few days ago. The players are now greeted by a glamorous 14-metre-high crystal chandelier which weighs 1.2 tons and is situated directly at the entrance. Just like in the past the guests must present their identity document and register at the entrance. The entrance fee costs 2 Euro per person – a fair price, when one keeps in mind that the modernising and renovation costs amounted to around 20 million Euro.

Now the guests can make use of the brand-new lifts and escalators and also enjoy a clearly much larger gambling area. Besides this, the game area has been equipped with the latest versions of the slot machine. The assortment of games is situated on six floors and on over 8000 sqm. In March 2021 we had reported that a new casino has opened at Kurfürstendamm. The locations on Potsdamer Platz, Alexanderplatz and Spandau are operated by the Spielbank Berlin GmbH & Co. KG.

Green and sustainable structural restorisation

According to the statement given, during the renovations the Spielbank Berlin has given great importance to make the building sustainable. The advisory committee, on which I am serving together with Michael Müller, Gregor Gysi, Frank Steffel and Özcan Mutlu, has also supported many small organisations such as the Hilfe für Obdachlose am Bahnhof Zoo (…) “
