The casino-streams on Twitch have long been controversial. The streamers often receive million deal offers from the online casinos. There has been a constant increase in pressure on the streaming platform Twitch. A few days ago, Twitch published a statement about the casino streams. But what is Twitch’s position about this issue and is there any future for Casino-Streams?

In June of this year we had already reported that a Twitch-Fan had initiated an action group against gambling streams. There are currently still several casino streamers who often have an extensive coverage on Twitch and who manage to earn millions from their activity. There has recently been lots of criticism from all sides, since many streamers gamble in illegal online casinos without a valid licence. Besides this, minors also have access to casino streams and are thus exposed to gambling at an early age.

Twitch will tighten the regulations from mid-October

As Twitch has announced last week, the regulations for gambling will be tightened as from the 18th. of October 2022. To be more precise some online casinos will not be allowed to stream. This concerns the platforms which do not hold an official licence in the USA or those who get around the legislation in any way.

Twitch published a statement on Twitter, in which some providers were even mentioned by name. These are Rollbit, Duelbits and Stake. Around a year ago we discussed in an article the reasons why so many casino streamers play on Stake.com. Twitch now also seems to want to target the large crypto platforms. In the statement released by Twitch, it is stated that streaming of slot machines, roulette and dice games will also be forbidden.

However, many critics are of the opinion that the “tightening of regulations” which has been announced is too half-hearted and has come too late. Recently Twitch was harshly criticised not only by the classical Gaming-Community, but also from all sides, about the fact that casino streamers seem to be able to operate on Twitch without any rules. In August of last year, we had for example reported about a casino ban on advertising on Twitch.

Still not clear how things will proceed

Twitch has announced in its Twitter-Statement that more details will be published before the new regulations come into force on the 18th. of October. These will establish the way in which Twitch will deal with the issue of casino streams in the future and which consequences streamers can expect to face if they break the rules.

Several gambling streams critics spoke out soon after Twitch’s statement was released. Among these is the famous streamer Tanzverbot. Around two weeks ago we had reported that Tanzverbot had announced a casino-stream. He tweeted on his account about the ban on casino streams which had just been announced:

“folks, we have managed!”

Conclusion

Twitch’s announcement that the regulations for gambling streams will be tightened as early as mid-October has caused quite a stir. It was even reported in an article in Der Spiegel. However, till now it is still not clear to what extent the regulations will be adjusted. Till now Twitch has not released any details about the announced restrictions. It is however a fact that Twitch has reacted to the increase in public pressure and that it will most probably impose a significant limit on the activities of the casino streamers.
